Can You Apply Wax Over Ceramic Coating?

Car wax will not work well over ceramic coating. You may get smears or streaking as the wax will stick in some areas and not in others. Not to mention, but some of the oils in car waxes will degrade your SI02 coating over time and eliminate some of its paint protection properties.

Why Not Wax?

The reason you don't want to wax your vehicle if it has a ceramic or graphene coating is because wax is not intended to be used on a nano coating. Wax is designed to be applied to a painted surface and they just sit there. Ceramic coatings bond to your paints finish and is designed to protect the underlying paint.

Now lets talk turkey. You honestly are wasting money, time and elbow grease if you apply a wax coating over your ceramic. If you apply wax over your ceramic coating, you will be getting rid of that nano-tech surface and thereby be defeating the benefits and money spent on your SI02 coating.

There is no doubt that ceramic coating is more durable than car waxes. It has been proven by many car enthusiast and auto detailers that a ceramic coating is more durable than car wax at protecting your paintwork and extending that high gloss showroom shine that we all love so much.

But if you want to extend the life of your ceramic coating, then don't apply car wax over it. Wax will not work well over ceramic and will prevent the coating from doing the job it was designed to do.

A SI02 coating is a product that is specifically designed to be applied to a painted surface. It bonds to the paint and creates a barrier between the paint and the elements. This is why a ceramic coating is considered to be the ultimate car coating. It protects the paintwork from the elements and extends the life of your paintwork.

So what can you do?

If you truly feel as though you want to apply a liquid wax. You will have to get wax that is specifically designed to be applied to a ceramic coating. There are some available wax products specifically designed for ceramic coating. These waxes have a special formula that is designed to be applied over a ceramic coating.

One such wax is by Detail Medic and part of the Elite Pro Series of waxes and coatings they offer. It is a liquid graphene wax that provides a one year protection to your paint's finish. It has been proven to be effective in providing a protection to the paint's finish from the elements for up to one year.

A final note, I am not saying that you can't wax over a ceramic coating. We are only suggesting that it is a waste of money, time, energy and defeating the actual purpose for using a ceramic coating. Happy Detailing
