Car Detailing - Using The Right Tools In Your Kit

This is one of the most forgotten and by far the most important tool in your car detailing kit. Think about it, what is the one item you use every time you detail your car? You guessed it, your microfiber towels.

I’m not talking about the regular microfiber towel you use to wash your car. You know the one, it cost like one dollar per towel. I’m talking about the much finer microfiber towel that you may use to polish your car. Something in the 800 GSM range. Those towels will set you back $8 to $ 12 each. It is one of the most important tools in your kit.

Microfiber is one of the best polishing towels available for your car. It is very soft, has a high absorption rate and it can be used for everything from removing a fresh coat of wax to polishing your entire car.

The key to using microfiber for polishing and detailing in general is the thickness of the towel.  You will want to use a microfiber towel with a thickness of at least 500 GSM. It will be soft enough to not scratch your paint, but also have enough thickness to polish and buff the wax, polish or coating spray you are applying without damaging your paint or finishes.

This is important because you don’t want to damage your paint with a thin cheap towel. It is much easier to apply a coat of wax or polish with a soft, delicate towel.

I have used microfiber towels for years and I’m a big fan of them. It is one of the most versatile items in your detailing kit. I can’t imagine what I would do without it. I can’t imagine going back to using a standard cheap microfiber towel you buy in bulk from Amazon.

Using a ultra-plush high grade microfiber towel for polishing and detailing your car is the key to getting the best shine and feel out of your car. Don't be that guy and make the mistake of using a low grade microfiber cloth when detailing that expensive paint on your car. Happy Detailing!
